Globetrotters (our new geography club) met for the first time this week. We got to play lots of fun games to learn about places around the world.

Today, Jane from Shelterbox gave us an excellent introduction to the charity, which gives thousands of big green boxes full of equipment to families all over the world to help them survive after natural or man-made disasters have struck.

It’s an example of a mathematical never-ending picture called a fractal.

A fractal is a never-ending pattern. Fractals are infinitely complex patterns that are self-similar across different scales. They are created by repeating a simple process over and over in an ongoing feedback loop.

Mrs Cheetham took this picture at lunchtime in the playground today – thank you!  It looks like it could be a circumzenithal arc also known as a “smile in the sky”. See this Wikipedia article for more information.
